Stockholm Designweek 2025. Each time I go to an event that is part of the designweek, it creates an unforgettable memory. I come back home filled with inspiration, motivation and truly had a good time. But somehow I do not go that often and I quickly regret that after a day like today. Maybe I have to challenge myself more often to network. I got invited by a mutual friend who has build a community of designers to come to At Home With, A one day exhibition from Katarina Matsson and Magda Marnell. They are the woman behind the interior design studio Matsson Marnell. In the beautiful apartment of Magda on Södermalm they showcased work from several designers. As she explained a lot is already part of her interior in everyday life, but they added more work for this event. It all went surprisingly well together and became an inspiring mix of a home and a gallery.

When I entered the building, I literally could follow the piano music that sounded throughout the stairwell. The talented Emily Liu held an incredibly beautiful classical piano concert in the hallway of the apartment. What an entrance was that. As I arrived by myself I quickly looked around to see if there was anyone I knew and luckily that was the case. She introduced me to the designer duo and they passionately told about the artworks that were for display. From beeswax candles to door handles, lamps, paint and bedsheets.

On both sides of this corridor, they added some greens to the framework. As you already can see in these first photos, but also within the next photos is that they tried to get as much light inside as possible with several windows, open frameworks and the big mirror in the corridor. For the two kids bedrooms they built another window in the middle which was such a great idea. It lights up the hallway during the day and at night you can easily close the panels. From the inside of each bedroom you only see one window and from the hallway you have a look into both bedrooms.

Another thing I noticed were the windowsills with their curved shape. Usually they are all straight lines and I think this looks beautiful and fits perfectly with the windows. The other day Casper and I were thinking about our interior style if we would live in the Netherlands and we thought that most Swedish apartments have these characteristic windowsills that are fun to decorate. They are usually pretty big so you can have a lamp, a flower or candles. Thinking back to the houses we’ve seen in the Netherlands I think they are always pretty small and not designed to become an eye-catcher of the room.

The red lamp on the wall is from the design and neon light studio Josefin Eklund.

On the other side of the livingroom they created this corner with the sculptural chair from designer Kajsa Melchior. She is a great interior architect and artist.

The marble on the half wall is from Public Studio who has divided their business in two parts. For the studio they are designing objects and furniture and under the name Public Marble they work with their passion for natural stones.

Have you noticed the unique shaped mirror in the bedroom? It’s from the designer Michelle Eismann who is specialised in mirrors. She designs them in all different shapes and sizes.

The chair with the impressive framework and backside is from the award winning entrepreneurs behind Hyfer Objects. With a focus on both style and sustainability, they turn discarded materials into beautiful, luxury furniture.

Gnilmyd Kcab creates and produces interior accessories designed to stand out, not blend in. Their designs bring humor and quirkiness to interiors. On display at this exhibition is the wig lamp, available in several color options.

With a keen eye for fabrics, I can’t help but mention the Swedish brand Midnatt. Lately, they seem to be everywhere. Designers often use their textiles in the interior projects I photograph, and I frequently spot them on social media. They offer home textiles in crisp organic cotton, available in the most beautiful color options.

A typical Swedish note on this event were all the shoes that were left outside the apartment. It isn’t normal to go inside homes with shoes, which is super normal in the Netherlands. After five years of living here I don’t think I will ever go back to that habit again. It feels so much cleaner not to walk around inside with your dirty shoes. Even on an exhibition like this, it feels cosy if everyone is walking around in their socks or ‘home shoes’.
