Together with a colleague, I drove to a fantastic house in Norrtälje a few weeks ago. The journey felt more like a holiday than a day of work. That day, for the first time since our emigration we had a fantastic amount of snow. Everything looked so fairy-tale like shrouded in the white landscape.
Samen met een collega ben ik een paar weken terug naar een fantastisch huis gereden in Norrtälje. De weg er naartoe voelde meer als vakantie dan als een dag waarop gewerkt moest worden. Die dag lag er voor het eerst sinds onze emigratie echt een fantastische hoeveelheid sneeuw. Alles zag er gelijk zo sprookjesachtig uit gehuld in het witte landschap.
The main reason for our day trip was to practice and to build a portfolio of recent work. We started with the bedrooms which we first had dressed up a little extra. My colleague had already bought a number of beautiful bunches of flowers in the morning and brought along the necessary extra accessories, so we were able to move around to make the interior as presentable as possible. I've noticed that interiors that have been professionally styled beforehand look very casually beautiful. Somewhere a sprig flaunts from a vase, a blanket lies loosely on an armchair or the tea towel on the kitchen counter. To do this myself with the same result is still a challenge for me, but what fun it seems to me to be able to do both in the future.
De voornaamste reden van onze dag op stap was deels ter oefening en deels om een portfolio op te bouwen met recent werk. We begonnen bij de slaapkamers die we eerst wat extra hadden aangekleed. Mijn collega had in de ochtend al een aantal mooie bossen bloemen gekocht en de nodige extra accessoires meegenomen waardoor we heerlijk konden schuiven om het interieur zo representatief mogelijk neer te zetten. Het is mij opgevallen dat interieurs die van tevoren professioneel gestyled zijn voor de foto’s er heel nonchalant mooi uitzien. Ergens pronkt een takje uit een vaas, ligt een sprei losjes op een fauteuil of de theedoek op het aanrecht. Om dit zelf te doen met hetzelfde resultaat vind ik nog wel een uitdaging, maar wat lijkt het mij leuk om dit in de toekomst allebei te kunnen doen.
Taking interior photos is something I've had quite a bit of experience with, but a new form of it is processing products for sale. These two are a good example of that. In both photos it's all about the painting, but showing the surroundings as well makes it much more of an atmospheric photo. In both cases you want to make a nice photos, but I noticed that you need a completely different focus with how you approach the space. If you like to photograph interiors yourself it is a really nice exercise to let a specific item blend into the space, but still focus on that. I'm curious to see your own results!
Het maken van interieurfoto’s is iets waar ik al behoorlijk wat ervaring mee heb, maar een nieuwe vorm daarvan is het verwerken van producten voor de verkoop. Deze twee zijn daar een goed voorbeeld van. Het gaat in allebei de foto’s om het schilderij, maar het wordt door de omgeving ook te laten zien veel meer een sfeervolle foto. In beide gevallen wil je natuurlijk een mooie foto maken, maar ik merkte wel gelijk dat je een hele andere focus nodig hebt met hoe je de ruimte benadert. Mocht je het zelf ook leuk vinden om interieurs te fotograferen is het echt een leuke oefening om een specifiek item in de ruimte op te laten gaan, maar daar toch focus op te leggen. Ik ben benieuwd naar jullie eigen resultaat!
What a stroke of luck, the first large amounts of snow had fallen and also the sun shined. After months of darkness, there was finally some light again. As a photographer, sometimes you can be very happy with the sun and other times you'd rather not have it. In this case it was more than welcome and gave an extra sparkle to the photo. At times I prefer not to have sunlight myself is when it is very bright and you notice that there are many contrasts in your interior. A certain area is very light and other areas can be underexposed by the shadow. Especially in real estate photography where I prefer to present everything as calmly as possible, it can look a bit uneasy.
Wat een geluk, de eerste grote hoeveelheden sneeuw waren gevallen en ook nog het zonnetje erbij. Na maanden van donkere dagen, was er eindelijk weer wat licht. Als fotograaf kan je de ene keer erg blij zijn met de zon en de andere keer had je hem liever niet. In dit geval was hij meer dan welkom en gaf hij net een extra glinstering in de foto. Op momenten dat ik zonlicht zelf liever niet heb is als het heel fel is en je merkt dat er in je interieur veel contrasten ontstaan. Een bepaald gedeelte wordt heel licht en andere plekken kunnen onderbelicht worden door de schaduw. Zeker bij vastgoed fotografie waar ik liever alles zo rustig mogelijk presenteer, kan het juist wat onrustig ogen.
As you can see from the photo, the kitchen is pretty basic and the accessories create extra ambiance. Some of the accessories you come across in real estate styling are not practical for everyday use, but I think there are definitely some nice examples here that you can easily apply at home. In the window frame, there are some fresh herbs on the left and a regular plant on the right. Certainly herbs in a nice pot can be a nice accessory in the kitchen. Another favorite is the pestle & mortar as seen on the countertop on the left. In addition, you see several trays stacked against each other. This is a way you see much more often also in magazines. On the right of the countertop are several pieces of vegetables on a beautiful platter. What I've noticed over the past few months is that this form of decoration is very popular when decorating homes in Stockholm.
Zoals je ziet op de foto is de keuken vrij basic en creëren de accessoires extra sfeer. Sommige accessoires die je tegenkomt bij vastgoed styling zijn niet praktisch voor dagelijks gebruik, maar ik denk dat er hier zeker een aantal leuke voorbeelden te zien zijn die je thuis gemakkelijk kunt toepassen. In het raamkozijn staat links een kruidenplantje en rechts een gewone plant. Zeker kruiden kan in een mooi potje een leuk accessoire zijn in de keuken. Een andere liefhebber is de vijzel zoals links op het aanrecht staat. Daarnaast zie je verschillende dienbladen tegen elkaar gestapeld. Dat is een manier die je veel vaker ook in tijdschriften terug ziet komen. Rechts op het aanrecht liggen verschillende groentes op een mooie schaal. Wat mij de afgelopen maanden is opgevallen, is dat die vorm van decoratie erg geliefd is bij de aankleding van woningen in Stockholm.
Can you see yourself sitting here too? The view was truly breathtaking. I noticed that they deliberately chose curtains that give the atmosphere of the fabric, but can never be completely closed and take away the view. A very nice solution for this kind of impressive windows.
Zie je jezelf hier ook al zitten? Het uitzicht was echt adembenemend mooi. Het viel mij op dat er bewust gekozen is voor gordijnen die wel de sfeer van de stof geeft, maar nooit helemaal dicht kunnen en het uitzicht wegnemen. Een hele leuke oplossing voor dit soort indrukwekkende raampartijen.
