When a beloved Swedish interior brand from 1924 and a modern Swedish designer work together it can only result in stunning design. They proved their skills in a collaboration which led to the collection of 'Sirkka'. Svenskt Tenn has been one of my favorite brands for many years and I always love to walk around their store in Stockholm. The work of Mimmi Blomqvist crossed my path several times now and became an artist to keep an eye on regularly.

The new collection includes two glass bowls as showed on the table in the photo above. It also includes the hanging lamp which I fell in love with immediately and the wooden stool in it's mushroom-like form next to the fireplace. I like that she has stayed close to earlier work that is recognisable to her style. Nevertheless it melts in easily with the collection from Svenskt Tenn.
When it comes to her bowls, Mimmi Blomqvist works originally more with porcelain which makes this collection, that is similar in form, yet very different. The bowls in the Sirkka collection are available in two different sizes. One is smaller with a diameter of 15 centimeters and the other one is slightly bigger with a diameter of 30 centimeters.

The collection, Sirkka, is named after Mimmi's Finnish grandmother. Mimmi is born in 1994 in Stockholm and has a background as an illustrator. Within her study she has specialized herself in ceramics and glass. Which are still the materials she is working with mostly. Earlier she designed a bowl named 'Fungo', which I think really put her on the map. I have added photos of them at the end of the text. On her Instagram she often shows behind the scenes of the creative process and a look inside in her studio in Stockholm.

The entire collection was developed and designed to fill gaps in her own apartment. To me that sounds like a dream for all designers. Personally I often have ideas of what I am looking for to add in my interior, but it often is so detailed that every time it turns out not to exist. Only then I never do anything with the ideas. Mimmi did and she created this collection that also include a beautiful ceiling lamp with brass and opal glass. She was in need of a lamp herself to hang above the dining table and wanted one with a pleasant soft light. Beside only beautiful designs she was aiming for a combination with practical and beautiful design in one piece. All items in the Sirkka collection fit together because of the similarity in both design and expression and are all created in a mushroom-like form.

The Sirkka stool is made of ash wood and designed to be both stable for use and an eye-catcher in the interior. As she describes herself, the stool can be placed as a sculpture or used as a functional seat. When I saw the collection at first I quickly checked the prices and to give an indication the price of this wooden stool is for example 30 000 sek which will be around 2600 euro.

When I discovered the work of Mimmi Blomqvist, she mainly had the bowl named 'Fungo'. This design is available in several sizes, colors and in both a shiny version and matt. At some of her photos you can see that it's used as a bowl for jewellery for example or as a piece of art for your interior. Although probably every item from Sirkka will automatically become a piece of art in your interior, not matter which function it really has.
